DESCRIPTION: APW - Hampden, "J.P. Stevens Watch Co, Atlanta, GA" triple signed with marking to mvt, dial, and case, mvt with Stevens' patent regulator in frosted rose gold and with unusual rose gold capped barrel bridge and balance cock foot, 15J, 18S, heavy 18K rose gold original box hinge drum style HC with attractive engraving detail to front and rear perimeters and to band, hexagonal pendant, gold cuvette engraved "Henry Porter Williams," white enamel SS dial with elegant hollow Roman numerals, SW-LS, combination rose gold and nickel damascene finish, main plate with s#2027 which is of J.P. Stevens' numbering sequence, mvt likely with Hampden s# internally but we have not disassembled to inspect for such. Gross weight of assembled watch 95.0 dwt (147.7 g). An exceptional piece, this triple signed example is the most visually spectacular Hampden watch for J.P. Stevens which we have encountered. Its most unusual feature is the rose gold capped barrel bridge and balance cock foot which are constructed as damascened rose gold bridges that are set atop a base-metal lower portion to the barrel bridge and balance cock foot, and these rose gold damascened areas of the movement are accentuated beautifully by the rose gold Stevens' regulator components and by the rose gold case. From the collection of Dr. Robert Restuccia.
CONDITION: Mvt: Running, excellent cosmetic mvt condition overall, excellent color and luster, scattered fine to micro-fine scratches with greatest profusion being located immediately adjacent regulator disk bordering the side facing mvt's edge, some surface spots to nickel plate, mild oxide to regulator; dial with hls between 4 and 5, hls between 7 and 8, light hl above seconds-register, light perimeter hl at 12:30; excellent hands, minute with mild bend; case shows little wear, patch of fine scratches to rear near center, some rippling of reflection around perimeter areas of front and rear, excellent overall engraving detail though with some loss to high points of boxed hinge portions; tight bow, crown shows medium wear; good glass crystal.
ESTIMATE: $3600 - $5600
